Surplus store

Tied into the idea of better asset management, the idea would be to have a store front where surplus items from around campus can be stored in (rather than stuffed into little rooms around campus taking up valuable space) and sold out of.

There are other Universities with programs along the same lines.

Recycle construction waste

Require any building or renovation projects at McGill to include provisions for the recycling of the construction waste generated during that project. Have it built into the contract bidding process as a requirement that the contractors have to follow.

Use recycled material whenever possible for projects.

Use campus as showcase for urban agriculture

We already have several edible garden projects on campus run by student and community groups...Santropol Roulant even does apiculture. We saw canteloupes and tomatos grown in front of James Admin. We have an orchard. Wouldn't it be fun if we grew more fruits and veggies on campus and used it as a delicious showcase of the tertiary and/or experiential learning opportunities that can be provided by urban agriculture?

Enhancing Campus Sustainability Through Experiential Learning

There has been an increase in student interest in campus sustainability. Moreover, in the last several years students have been figuring out how to get credit for it. Examples include the McGill Food Systems Project (http://mfsp.wordpress.com/) and the recent McGill Energy Project, whereby students have partnered with stakeholders on campus (e.g. McGill Food and Dining Services; Utilities and Energy Management), identified ...more »

Add sustainability to learning outcomes for students

McGill should ensure that its students graduate as worldly citizens conscientious of social, economic and environmental impacts they affect and can effect in their communities, wherever they go.

Improving cafetaria spaces

The McGill cafeterias should be redesigned to encourage ownership and participation. They should become gathering spaces. Instead of tables and chairs being bolted into the ground, they could be arranged so that people feel like they can eat and discuss together. Instead of cafeterias being relegated to corners, they should be at the center of campus life. Instead of feeling like transitory spaces, where you eat as ...more »

Rent-able Headphones at the Library

Why does Mcgill libraries not have a adequate supply of headphones for rent? They could be 3-6 hrs rentals, that way we would not over consume the cheap headphones the library supplies students with right now. The rent-able headphones could be bought from a north american company.

Paper recycling bin at every U-Print device

I have noticed that people using the uPrint devices print things that they don't want and leave the paper on the machine or lying around. Also, I noticed that many of the uPrint devices are located in hallways and other spaces which don't have a paper recycling bin close by. I think it would be very helpful and useful to have a paper recycling bin at every U-Print device. Paper only recycling, so a single narrow slot ...more »
